Mary Sue Hubbard
A dedicated wife, missionary,
unconditional background supporter and
Guardian of the Technology
If anyone ever deserved becoming a Clear, it is Mary Sue Hubbard.
For nearly sixteen years Mary Sue has been Ron's most trusted and constant helper in Scientology, its research and organizations.
Born this life in Rockdale, Texas, Mary Sue was raised in Houston and after one year at Rice Institute graduated as a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Texas.
Although scheduled for a career in petroleum research, she had found Dianetics and on graduation from the university insisted on following it as a career.
She came to the Foundation in Wichita, Kansas, in early 1951 and received her Hubbard Dianetic Auditor's Certificate and then became a Foundation staff auditor. She then began to help Ron as a research auditor.
She and Ron were married in early 1952. Those were very turbulent days and after Ron had wrested his materials from the early boards of directors, she went with him to Phoenix, Arizona, to establish the first organization Ron controlled – the Office of L. Ron Hubbard, which was located at 1405 North Central Avenue in Phoenix, Arizona. This became in a few months the Hubbard Association of Scientologists.
Amongst other things she helped Ron coin the word "Scientology".
In Phoenix amid the constant violence of the turncoat Don J. Purcell of Wichita and his suits which attempted to seize Scientology, Mary Sue became ill and to save her life, Ron took her to England where several Dianetic groups had asked him to form an organization.
There, their first child Diana, was born, who is a dual U.S. and British citizen.
When a British organization had been formed, Mary Sue went with Ron to Spain and then back to Camden, New Jersey, to better organize U.S. Scientology. From Camden they went back to Phoenix where Quentin was born and, later on, Suzette.
During those hectic formative years, she held at one time or another every post in an organization and yet kept her home running and assisted in research.
In 1955 she helped establish the Washington organization as its first Academy Supervisor, then spent many months abroad and returned to Washington. In 1958 Arthur was born at the Washington hospital.
In 1959 she helped establish the International Headquarters at Saint Hill.
Through these years she won the hearts of Scientologists by her constant good sense and devotion. She earned the complete trust of the public. In organizations it became understood that when Mary Sue took over a post it would prosper and that when she gave her attention to an organization it promptly came out of the red.

Even a generally unkind press has not otherwise than referred to her as the "charming Mrs. Hubbard and the four delightful Hubbard children". In England even the shopkeepers ask her to intervene on their behalf with local government.
She and Ron until three years ago were co-auditors. They worked their way through the jungle that is now so well mapped for others. Then came the levels requiring solo.
She went up through the grades by rehabilitation when they were established and for many months sat in an unsuspected overrun at Grade VI.
Her task, as was Ron's, was devotion to keeping things going. She was probably Clear a year ago but typically Mary Sue, wanted to be thoroughly sure of it and kept on.
Finally, the Clearing Course Supervisor ordered her to be checked out and, as suspected, Mary Sue had been Clear for some time and was working at O.T. level, Grade VIII, and passed a very thorough Clear check easily on January 26, 1967, becoming Clear 208.
If the world was lucky to have Ron, then Ron was lucky to have Mary Sue.
Staunch, good and thorough, Mary Sue's hand for sixteen years has helped guide Scientology and its organizations. She did the first research on the handling of E-Meters as the preclear. She helped map the track and helped establish the processes we use today.
All these sixteen years have been super-human in their demands.
Golden-haired, slender and charming, Mary Sue has come through it all.
Above others she has earned her status of Clear. And that she could make it in the pressure and turbulence of our formative years is a tribute to both Mary Sue and Scientology.
Her life has been epic, impossible to adequately describe in these few words.
And it is with great triumph and pride that we salute our Mary Sue: Clear # 208!
Mary Sue today is in her home in England [NdT: 1967]. She is no longer a member of the board of Scientology organizations and is not a director or officer of any of the corporations. She holds a staff post of Guardian in the Worldwide Division at Saint Hill.
She works 10 to 12 hours a day but spends the evenings with her children. Her mother, sister and brother live in the United States.
Most of her work today is concerned with assisting Scientologists to get help and assuring them of justice and good service.
When things go too wrong people usually count on Mary Sue to put things right for them. And, with remarkable skill, she always does.
Concerning her Clearing, Mary Sue herself says:
"The adventure of self-discovery through Scientology is the most exciting and rewarding anyone can experience.
"Through the Grades of Processing, the complexities and aberrations fall away, and one is again himself – unique amongst all others, with experience and abilities available for which one dreamed, yet dared not to hope as possible. And one is Clear.
"To those en route, the high adventure lies ahead. Take courage – the Road is sure and the chains are no longer forever binding.
"To those who are Clear and going to O.T., I am proud to be with you—we have much to do and the future is ours.
"To my dear husband, auditor, teacher and our Founder go my thanks and acknowledgment for having given the most precious gifts of Freedom and true Beingness to me and my fellow Man. Without him, none of this would have been possible; and so to Ron goes my everlasting gratitude for having provided for us all the Road to Clear."

Wenn es je jemand verdient hat, ein Clear zu werden, ist es Mary Sue Hubbard.
Nahezu sechzehn Jahre lang war Mary Sue Rons vertrauensvollste und beständigste Helferin in der Scientology, ihrer Forschung und ihren Organisationen.
In diesem Leben in Rockdale, Texas, geboren, wuchs Mary Sue in Houston auf und graduierte nach einem Jahr am Rice Institute mit einem Bachelor of Arts von der Universität von Texas.

In Phoenix, inmitten der ständigen Gewalt des Verräters Don J. Purcell aus Wichita und seiner Prozesse, die versuchten, Scientology an sich zu reißen, wurde Mary Sue krank, und um ihr Leben zu retten, brachte Ron sie nach England, wo ihn mehrere Dianetik-Gruppen gebeten hatten, eine Organisation zu gründen.
Dort wurde ihr erstes Kind, Diana, geboren, die eine doppelte Staatsbürgerschaft in den USA und Großbritannien besitzt.
Als eine britische Organisation gegründet worden war, ging Mary Sue mit Ron nach Spanien und dann zurück nach Camden, New Jersey, um Scientology in den USA besser zu organisieren. Von Camden aus gingen sie zurück nach Phoenix, wo Quentin und später auch Suzette geboren wurden.
In diesen hektischen, prägenden Jahren hatte sie das eine oder andere Mal alle Ämter in einer Organisation inne und hielt dennoch ihr Heim am Laufen und half in der Forschung mit.
Im Jahr 1955 half sie beim Aufbau der Washingtoner Organisation als deren erste Academy Supervisorin, verbrachte dann viele Monate im Ausland und kehrte nach Washington zurück. Im Jahr 1958 wurde Arthur im Washingtoner Krankenhaus geboren.
1959 half sie bei der Einrichtung des Internationalen Hauptquartiers in Saint Hill.
In diesen Jahren gewann sie die Herzen der Scientologen durch ihren beharrlichen Scharfsinn und ihre Hingabe. Sie erwarb sich das volle Vertrauen der Öffentlichkeit. In Organisationen wurde verstanden, dass, wenn Mary Sue einen Posten übernahm, dieser gedeihen würde, und dass, wenn sie ihre Aufmerksamkeit einer Organisation widmete, diese sofort aus den roten Zahlen kam.
Selbst eine im Allgemeinen unfreundliche Presse hat sie nicht anders genannt als die "charmante Mrs. Hubbard und die vier entzückenden Hubbard Kinder". In England wird sie sogar von den Ladenbesitzern gebeten, in ihrem Namen bei den örtlichen Behörden zu intervenieren.
Bis vor drei Jahren waren sie und Ron Co-Auditoren. Sie arbeiteten sich durch den Dschungel, der jetzt für andere so gut kartiert ist. Dann kamen die Stufen, die solo erforderten.
Sie stieg durch Rehabilitation die Grade hinauf, als diese geschaffen wurden, und saß viele Monate lang in einem unvermuteten Überlauf auf Grad VI.
Ihre Aufgabe war es, genau wie die von Ron, mit Hingabe die Dinge am Laufen zu halten. Wahrscheinlich war sie schon vor einem Jahr klar, aber typisch Mary Sue, sie wollte sich gründlich vergewissern und machte weiter.
Schließlich ordnete der Supervisor des Clearing-Kurses an, sie zu überprüfen, und wie vermutet, war Mary Sue schon seit einiger Zeit Clear und arbeitete auf O.T.-Stufe, Grad VIII, und bestand am 26. Januar 1967 problemlos einen sehr gründlichen Clear-Check und wurde Clear 208.
Wenn die Welt Glück hatte, Ron zu haben, dann hatte Ron Glück, Mary Sue zu haben.
Unerschütterlich, gut und gründlich, hat Mary Sue sechzehn Jahre lang dazu beigetragen, Scientology und ihre Organisationen zu leiten. Sie hat die ersten Forschungen über die Handhabung von E-Metern als Preclear durchgeführt. Sie half, den Weg abzustecken, und trug dazu bei, die Prozesse zu etablieren, die wir heute verwenden.
All diese sechzehn Jahre waren in ihren Anforderungen übermenschlich.
Die goldhaarige, schlanke und charmante Mary Sue ist durch alles hindurch gekommen.
Mehr als andere hat sie sich ihren Status als Clear verdient. Und dass sie es unter dem Druck und den Turbulenzen unserer Anfangsjahre geschafft hat, ist eine Anerkennung sowohl für Mary Sue als auch für Scientology.
Ihr Leben war episch, unmöglich, es in diesen wenigen Worten angemessen zu beschreiben.
Und mit großem Triumph und Stolz grüßen wir unsere Mary Sue: Clear 208!
Mary Sue lebt heute in ihrem Zuhause in England [NdT: 1967]. Sie ist nicht mehr Mitglied des Vorstands der Scientology-Organisationen und ist weder Direktor noch Beauftragter einer der Gesellschaften.
Ihre Mutter, ihre Schwester und ihr Bruder leben in den Vereinigten Staaten.
Der größte Teil ihrer Arbeit besteht heute darin, Scientologen zu unterstützen, Hilfe zu erhalten und ihnen Gerechtigkeit und gute Dienste zuzusichern.
Wenn etwas allzu schief läuft, verlassen sich die Menschen in der Regel darauf, dass Mary Sue die Dinge für sie in Ordnung bringt. Und das tut sie mit bemerkenswertem Geschick auch immer.
Über ihr Clearing sagt Mary Sue selbst:
"Das Abenteuer der Selbstentdeckung durch Scientology ist das aufregendste und lohnendste, das man erleben kann.
"Durch die Grade des Prozessings fallen die Komplexitäten und Verirrungen weg, und man ist wieder man selbst – einzigartig unter allen anderen, und man verfügt über Erfahrungen und Fähigkeiten, von denen man geträumt hat, aber nicht zu hoffen wagte, dass sie möglich sind. Und man ist Clear.
"Denen, die unterwegs sind, steht ein großes Abenteuer bevor. Habt Mut – der Weg ist sicher und die Ketten sind nicht länger für immer bindend.
"An die, die Clear sind und zu O.T. gehen, ich bin stolz, bei euch zu sein – wir haben viel zu tun und die Zukunft gehört uns.
"Meinem lieben Ehemann, Auditor, Lehrer und unserem Gründer gilt mein Dank und meine Anerkennung dafür, dass er mir und meinen Mitmenschen die wertvollsten Geschenke der Freiheit und der wahren Beingness gegeben hat. Ohne ihn wäre nichts von alledem möglich gewesen; und so gilt Ron meine immerwährende Dankbarkeit dafür, dass er uns allen den Weg zu Clear bereitgestellt hat."

Si quelqu’un a jamais mérité de devenir Clair, c’est bien Mary Sue Hubbard.
Pendant près de seize ans, Mary Sue fut l’aide la plus digne de confiance et la plus constante de Ron dans le domaine de la Scientologie, de ses recherches et organisations.
Née à Rockdale, au Texas, Mary Sue grandit à Houston et, après une année à l’Institut Rice, elle obtint une licence en arts de l’Université du Texas.
Alors qu’elle se destinait à une carrière dans la recherche pétrolière, elle découvrit la Dianétique et, à la fin de ses études universitaires, insista pour y faire sa carrière.
Elle entra à la Fondation de Wichita au Kansas, au début de l’année 1951, et reçut son certificat d’Auditeur de Dianétique Hubbard, puis devint auditeur à la Fondation. Ensuite, elle commença à aider Ron en tant qu’auditeur de recherche.
Elle et Ron se marièrent au début de 1952. Ce fut une époque très agitée et après que Ron eut reprit par force ses matériaux aux premiers conseils d’administration, elle l’accompagna à Phoenix en Arizona, pour créer la première organisation contrôlée par Ron – le Bureau de L. Ron Hubbard, situé au 1405 North Central Avenue à Phoenix, en Arizona. Cette organisation devint en quelques mois l’Association Hubbard des Scientologues.
Elle aida notamment Ron à forger le mot «Scientologie».
À Phoenix, au milieu de la violence constante du renégat Don J. Purcell de Wichita et de ses procès qui tentaient de s’emparer de la Scientologie, Mary Sue tomba malade et pour lui sauver la vie, Ron l’emmena en Angleterre où plusieurs groupes de Dianétique lui avaient demandé de former une organisation.
C’est là qu’est née leur première fille, Diana, qui possède la double nationalité américaine et britannique.
Lorsqu’une organisation britannique fut créée, Mary Sue partit avec Ron en Espagne, puis à Camden dans le New Jersey, pour mieux organiser la Scientologie en Amérique. De Camden, ils retournèrent à Phoenix où sont nés Quentin, et plus tard, Suzette.
Au cours de ces années bien remplies de formation, elle passa à un moment ou à un autre par tous les postes d’une organisation, tout en assurant le fonctionnement de son foyer et en participant à des travaux de recherche.
En 1955, elle participa à la création de l’organisation de Washington en tant que premier superviseur de l’Académie, puis passa de nombreux mois à l’étranger avant de revenir à Washington. En 1958, Arthur naquit à l’hôpital de Washington.
En 1959, elle contribua à l’établissement du Siège International à Saint Hill.
Tout au long de ces années, elle gagna le cœur des scientologues par son bon sens et son dévouement constants. Elle gagna la confiance totale du public. Dans les organisations, il était bien connu que lorsque Mary Sue prenait un poste, celui-ci prospérait et que lorsqu’elle se consacrait à une organisation, celle-ci sortait rapidement du rouge.
Même une presse généralement peu aimable n’hésita pas à l’appeler «la charmante Madame Hubbard et les quatre délicieux enfants Hubbard». En Angleterre, même les commerçants lui demandaient d’intervenir en leurs noms auprès des autorités locales.
Ron et elle furent co-auditeurs jusqu’à il y a 3 ans. Ils se frayèrent un chemin dans la jungle qui aujourd’hui est si bien cartographiée pour les autres. Puis sont arrivés les niveaux nécessitant un travail en solo.
Elle gravit les étapes des grades par réhabilitation lorsqu’ils furent établis, et pendant de nombreux mois, elle se retrouva dans une situation insoupçonnée d’overrun du Grade VI.
Sa tâche, tout comme celle de Ron, fut de se dévouer pour que les choses continuent. Elle était probablement Claire depuis un an mais, typiquement de Mary Sue, elle voulut en être tout à fait sûre et continua.
Finalement, le superviseur du cours de Clearing ordonna qu’elle soit vérifiée, et comme on le supposait, Mary Sue était Claire depuis un certain temps et travaillait au niveau d’OT, Grade VIII, et passa facilement un contrôle très approfondi de Clair le 26 janvier 1967, devenant ainsi le Clair Numéro 208.
Si le monde eut la chance d’avoir Ron, Ron eut la chance d’avoir Mary Sue.
Rigoureuse, saine et minutieuse, la main de Mary Sue contribua pendant seize ans à aider à guider la Scientologie et ses organisations. Elle effectua les premières recherches sur l’utilisation des Electromètres en tant que préclair. Elle aida à cartographier la piste ainsi qu’à établir les procédés que nous utilisons aujourd’hui.
Ces seize années entières exigèrent des efforts surhumains.
Cheveux d’or, mince et charmante, Mary Sue surmonta tout.
Elle mérita par-dessus tout son statut de Clair. Et le fait qu’elle put le faire dans la pression et les difficultés de nos années de formation est un hommage à la fois à Mary Sue et à la Scientologie.
Sa vie fut extraordinaire, impossible à décrire convenablement en quelques mots.
Et c’est avec un grand bonheur et une grande fierté que nous saluons notre Mary Sue : Clair numéro 208!
Mary Sue se trouve aujourd’hui [NdT: 1967] dans sa maison en Angleterre. Elle n’est plus membre du conseil d’administration des organisations de Scientologie et n’est ni directrice ni membre du bureau d’aucune des sociétés. Elle occupe un poste de Gardienne au sein de la Division mondiale de Saint Hill.
Elle travaille 10 à 12 heures par jour et passe ses soirées avec ses enfants. Sa mère, sa sœur et son frère vivent aux États-Unis. Aujourd’hui, la majeure partie de son travail consiste à aider les scientologues et à leur garantir justice et bon service.
Lorsque les choses vont trop mal, les gens comptent généralement sur Mary Sue pour redresser la situation à leur place. Et, avec un talent remarquable, elle y parvient toujours.
En ce qui concerne son état de Clair, Mary Sue dit elle-même :
«L’aventure de la découverte de soi à travers la Scientologie est la plus passionnante et la plus gratifiante que l’on puisse vivre.
«Grâce à l’Audition des Grades, les complexités et les aberrations disparaissent, et l’on redevient soi-même – unique parmi tous les autres, avec l’expérience et les aptitudes disponibles dont on a rêvé, mais que l’on n’a pas osé espérer possibles. Et l’on est Clair.
«À ceux qui sont en route, la grande aventure les attend. Soyez courageux – la route est sûre et les chaînes ne sont plus éternellement contraignantes.
«À ceux qui sont Clairs et qui vont vers OT, je suis fière d’être avec vous – nous avons beaucoup à faire et l’avenir nous appartient.
«À mon cher mari, auditeur, enseignant et notre Fondateur, j’adresse mes remerciements et ma reconnaissance pour m’avoir offert, les cadeaux les plus précieux de la liberté et de l’état d’être véritable, à moi ainsi qu’à mes semblables. Sans lui, rien de tout cela n’aurait été possible, et c’est donc à Ron que va ma gratitude infinie pour nous avoir fourni à tous le Chemin vers Clair.»
